Surface
The Surface stage builds on the work of Identify to explicitly reference where, how and why students acquire and develop both disciplinary and future skills within the curriculum.
Feedback from our students tell us that they would like:
- to be able to visualise how they can connect what they are learning to their future
- greater emphasis on skills development during learning
- more opportunities to reflect and build their self-awareness.
Without this, students find it difficult to translate what they learn in the classroom into the appropriate context for them as a graduate after university.
Through surfacing skills to students, it helps them see the practical applications of skills and knowledge gained, reinforces the role of self-awareness and reflection in development and encourages them to start thinking about how this can connect with what they want to do after university.
What support is provided at this stage?
- Guides on how you can effectively surface skills to students within your course and Case Studies demonstrating good practice
- You can also contact your College Careers & Employability Manager to arrange a personalised 1:1 conversation on how you could surface skills to students on your course.
These guides and case studies will continue to be developed throughout the pilot in the academic year 2025/2026.
