Proxy

How to configure your browser

All Web browsers are required to use the local Web Cache. This conserves Internet bandwidth and reduces costs.

  • To use the local Web Cache, please find your browser type and version below and follow the configuration instructions.

Browser Instructions
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11,10 & 9 (PC) Proxy Configuration

1. select Tools, Internet options, Connections
2. select LAN Settings
3. select Use automatic configuration script
4. enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
5. select OK, OK (to close previous windows)

Clearing Local Cache

1. select Tools, Internet Options, General
2. select Delete option, select the Temporary Internet files and website files of the dialogue box.
3. select  Delete
4. select Apply
5. Select OK

Safari (PC - v5.1.7)

1. select Settings (cog-wheel icon) then Preferences
2. select Advanced button
3. select Proxies: Change Settings button (new windows opens) 
4. select LAN settings (new window opens)
5.select automatic proxy configuration
6. under Proxy Configuration File enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
7. select OK, OK (to close previous windows)

Firefox (PC -v46.0.1)

1. select Tools (Burger icon), select Settings
2. select the Advanced button<br/3. select the Network tab
4. under Connection select Settings
5. select Automatic proxy configuration URL:
6. enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
7. select OK, OK (to close previous windows)

Google Chrome (PC - v50.0)

1. select Settings (Burger icon) then Settings
2. select the Show advanced settings near the bottom of webpage.
3. under Network heading, select Change proxy settings
4. select LAN Settings (New window opens) 
5. select Use automatic configuration script
6. enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
7. select OK, OK (to close previous windows)

Opera (PC - v37.0)

1. select  Menu tab (top left handside)
2. select Settings from drop down menu
3. select Browser from list
4. select Change proxy settings from Network section (new window appears)
5. select LAN settings (new window opens)
6. select Use automatic proxy configuration
7. enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
8. select OK, OK (to close previous windows)
9. select Close

All other browsers

Update to one of the browsers listed above.
If this is not possible, then see generalised configuration settings for non-recommended browsers

1. select  Tools/Options/Connection (or equivalent)
2. select Connect through proxy server (or equivalent)
3. enter address http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac
