Network Programme: Appeal for Patience and Support

In this video, Frank Coton, Senior Vice Principal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and chair of the University’s oversight group for developments in IT and digital technologies, appeals for patience and support for the duration of the works carried out by the Network Programme.

The Data Network at the University of Glasgow is a vital infrastructure component supporting the delivery of learning, teaching, research, and business operations for the University. It has grown over the years to meet an ever-increasing demand, which it does very well, but is now aging and in need of a refresh.

Following on from a previous video from Frank Coton, Senior Vice Principal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and chair of the University’s oversight group for developments in IT and digital technologies where Frank provided a short introduction to the Network Programme (see NP Introduction by Frank Coton), when speaking of Information Services (IS) projects, Frank Coton appeals for patience and support at this stage of the Network Programme, whilst the works are carried out.

NP: Appeal for Patience and Support by Frank Coton

Maintaining our goal to redesign the university network as a modern network and ensuring we enable an outstanding teaching and learning experience as well as create a much better operating environment, we are at the lower level design stage of the project whereby we have begun planning our pilot sites and begun communicating with key stakeholders of buildings.

This is a very lengthy, and robust process whereby we lean on our varying Estates colleagues' experience, oversight and governance to plan our roadmap before engaging with our key building stakeholders to ensure they receive the optimum solution and the benefits of a faster, more secure, scalable network within their building with better wifi coverage.

Hence why, as a long-term project, the importance of having our stakeholders patience and support to ensure we are able to deliver the solution and benefits for the building.
