Provenance: Unidentified sale at Malines (Mechelen) in 1770 (so dated in N.R. Ker, 'William Hunter as a collector of medieval manuscripts' [1983], p. 15).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter as lot 4163 at the above sale through his agent, Peter Molini, for 1 florin 5 sous according to Molini’s undated bill to Hunter;  see University of Glasgow Library, Hunter Papers, H204.
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Y.10.6”.
Binding: 18th-century red morocco decorated with double gold fillets and a floral roll;  gold-tooled spine;   marbled endpapers;  sprinkled red-edged leaves;  green silk bookmark.   Size:  201 x 149 mm.
Leaf size: 195 x 135 mm.
Annotations: Occasional early annotations in Latin, underlining and “nota” marks in gatherings b, d and e;  on a front flyleaf “Hic Liber Epistolarum Marii Philelphi est rarissimus, vide P. Niceron Eloges des Hommes Illustres Tom. X. pars  2da p.159”.
Decoration: Four initials supplied in red on a6r, a7r, c6r, d2r.
