William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Gaignat sale through his agent, Jean-Baptiste Dessain, for 59 livres 19 sous;  see 'Dessain-Hunter correspondence' (University of Glasgow Library, MS Gen. 36, f.23v).

Binding: France, 18th-century blue morocco decorated with triple gold fillets, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  gilt-edged leaves;  marbled endpapers;  orange silk bookmark.   Size:  256 x 193 mm.
Leaf size: 249 x 183 mm.
Annotations: Leaves a1 to r7 foliated in an early hand “1” to “201” (many numbers cropped by binder);  pointing hands in margins of o1v, o2v and p5v;  shelfmark “59-19” in pencil on verso of front free endpaper (for a similar shelf-mark see By.3.6).
Decoration: From a3r onwards initials supplied in alternate red and blue (some with reserved white);  occasional capital strokes supplied in red;  paragraph marks in “Tavola” supplied in alternate red and black.
Imperfections: Wanting the final blank leaf.
