Binding: France, 18th-century blue morocco decorated with triple gold fillets, a small gold circle at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  pink silk bookmark.   Size:  308 x 208 mm.

Annotations: Marginal annotations and underlining in red ink in a humanist hand in gathering 12, mainly extracting keywords;  marginal annotations in brown ink in a humanist hand in gatherings 18 and 19, mainly extracting keywords;  occasional traces of numbering of gatherings in top right-hand corner of first recto.
Decoration: Eight-line initial “V” on 1/2r supplied in gold, entwined with white-vine decoration defined in purple and green and set on a rectangular blue ground, which is decorated with white dots in groups of three;  in the upper margin of 1/2r is a border of similar white-vine decoration on a similar blue ground;  the inner and outer margins have borders made-up of columns of overlapping purple laurel leaves, and the lower margin has a land and seascape border incorporating an empty shield for a coat of arms, flanked at the left by a mermaid or merman holding a cornucopia and at the right by a mermaid or merman holding a banner.   Principal initials, which are supplied in gold and faceted, are set on rectangular grounds of purple, green, red, or blue, all decorated with white dots in groups of three (in some instances the illuminator has supplied an erroneous initial and a later correction in brown ink has been added alongside the initial).   Paragraph marks supplied in red throughout.
