Binding: France, 18th-century red morocco decorated with triple gold fillets, a gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  gilt-edged leaves;  marbled endpapers;  turquoise silk bookmark;  front and rear flyleaves have fleur-de-lys watermark above the date 1742.   Size:  417 x 292 mm.
Leaf size: 404 x 279 mm.
Annotations: Occasional marginal annotations in several 16th-century hands;  very occasional “nota” marks and pointing hands.
Decoration: On 1/2r is a 19-line initial “V” supplied in reddish orange and surrounded by a preliminary pen-and-ink outline drawing of white-vine decoration;  on 1/5r is the pen-and-ink outline of an eight-line initial “Q”, also with outline drawing of white-vine decoration in pen-and-ink;  other initials and paragraph marks supplied throughout in alternate red and blue up to 33/3r (f. 326r) - thereafter in red alone, and the decoration ceases on 33/9v (f. 332v).
Imperfections: Wanting the first blank leaf and gathering 36 (i.e. De venenis).
