| Binding: | Antwerp, 15th/16th-century; blind-tooled calf over oak boards, tooled in blind to a panel design; on both covers intersecting triple fillets form a centre panel and two frames; the centre panel is divided by diagonal intersecting fillets into lozenges and triangles which are each decorated with separate stamps including a circular stamp of a double rose, a smaller stamp of a single rose, a lozenge-shaped stamp of a double-headed eagle, a lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lys stamp, and two other lozenge-shaped foliate stamps; the frames are decorated with some of the same stamps and additionally a six-pointed star and an octagonal trefoil stamp; remains of two clasps, catch plates on front board; six nail holes forming an oblong shape on front cover are evidence for a now lost horn window displaying a title. J.B. Oldham, Notes on bindings in the Hunterian and general libraries in Glasgow University, 3bis) identifies the binding as Weale R.322 i.e. W.H.J. Weale, Bookbindings and rubbings of bindings in the National Art Library, South Kensington Museum (London: 1898); rebacked with goatskin and restored by Anthony Gardner, Nov. 1966 (see apologia on rear flyleaf).
