William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Gaignat sale through his agent, Jean-Baptiste Dessain, for 120 livres 1 sou;  see 'Dessain-Hunter correspondence' (University of Glasgow Library, MS Gen. 36, f.23r).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest, 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Y.5.4”.
Note: Hunter apparently had a second copy of this edition, which he purchased through his agent, Peter Molini, for 48 livres at the Brancas de Lauraguais sale (lot 573 in Guillaume de Bure, 'Catalogue d’une collection de livres choisis, provenans du cabinet de M***' (Paris:  1770);  see Molini’s bill to Hunter (University of Glasgow Library, Hunter Papers H214).   However, the binding of that copy is described in the sale catalogue as “M. R.” i.e. red morocco;  it is no longer in the Hunterian Library.

Leaf size: 384 x 271 mm.
Annotations: Frequent marginal annotations in a humanist hand, but almost all so washed out as to be illegible;  traces of running book numbers, but most cropped by binder;  18th-century note in ink to the binder on second front flyleaf “Titre du livre.   Strabonis geographiae editio Princeps 1472 Mar. B”, below which is a note by Hunter “This cannot be editio princeps, but the second, and a copy of the first ...”
Decoration: Initials supplied in red or blue or red with reserved white, with purple pen-work added occasionally.
Imperfections: Wanting the first and final blank leaves.
