Provenance: Unidentified ecclesiastical owner:  armorial bookstamp on 8/7r (f. 75r) - a shield bearing three lions rampant and a sceptre(?), surmounted by a mitre and crosier.
Louis-Léon-Félicité, duc de Brancas de  Lauraguais (1733-1824):  arms in gilt on both covers (Olivier 740);  lot 391 in Guillaume de Bure, Catalogue d’une collection de livres choisis, provenans du cabinet de M*** (Paris:  1770).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Brancas de Lauraguais sale through his agent, Peter Molini, for 110 livres;  see Molini’s bill to Hunter (University of Glasgow Library, Hunter Papers H214).

Binding: France, 18th-century gold-tooled blue goatskin;  covers decorated with a wide foliate roll border, with an ornament at each inner corner and with the Brancas de Lauraguais arms in gilt in the centre;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  blue silk bookmark.   Size:  341 x 245 mm.
Leaf size: 333 x 234 mm.
Annotations: Early manuscript signatures “hh”-“pp” which continue the sequence of manuscript signatures in the first item in the volume.  Foliated in red ink “1”-“75” (f. 72 by-passed in the foliation).
Decoration: Principal initials supplied in red and blue with reserved white;  other initials supplied in red or blue (occasionally with reserved white);  underlining in red;  occasional paragraph marks in red or in blue;  frequent initial strokes in red.
