Social Justice Hub

About

Social inequality at global, national and local scale is one of the major challenges facing society today. The Social Justice Hub will provide global leadership in this domain, building on existing strengths and synergies and engaging research funders, philanthropists, policy makers, third sector agencies and researchers in addressing positive societal change.

The Hub will provide the University with the opportunity to be highly distinctive and deliver world-class interdisciplinary research and teaching. This will deliver a significant increase in research reputation and income and an expanded portfolio of distinctive PGT programmes.

The project will bring together a critical mass of world-class researchers and a proven track record of cross-School collaboration. This will support the delivery of large scale interdisciplinary research projects, notably around the once-in-a-generation opportunity provided by the £1.5 billion Global Challenges Research agenda.

The Hub will be located in the Gilbert Scott building once the Adam Smith Business School relocates to a new building on the Western site. Its ambition is to become the principal destination for policy makers, external engagement and public debate that will extend the opportunities for serious policy engagement and raise the University’s profile in the research beacon of Addressing Inequalities. It hopes, in the interim, to pilot new ways of working through the co-location of a group of researchers at different stages of their career, including PGRs.
