Complete programme production service

Media have the expertise and infrastructure to produce high quality video and audio material for teaching, research or promotion. Media Production crews shoot using the latest 4K cameras and the highest quality sound recording equipment and techniques.  As well as going on-location, we have a fully functional soundproofed television studio complete with three high definition cameras, an extensive lighting grid, autocue and chroma-key facilities. The studio Gallery equipment includes an 8 channel vision mixer, 8 channel sound mixer, and the capability of live streaming output. Stand alone audio recordings can be made in our studio, or on location, and can comprise of single or multiple microphone set-ups. The recordings can be captured onto Digital solid state recorders, digitally edited on computer, and generally distributed as media files.

PLease note that outwith our normal working hours of 9 till 5, Monday to Friday, an hourly rate of £34:50 per member of staff will be applied.

Filming Consent Forms

The GDPR Consent Form must be completed by all participants taking part in work with the Media Production Unit. Completed forms should be retained by the requester.

Please note that GDPR Consent Forms must be completed by all participants and returned to the at least 1 week before production date.

Live and On-Demand Media Streaming

Live events can be streamed and recorded simultaneously from our television studio or from many locations on campus in collaboration with IT Services.

Examples of previous work in these areas include:

  • The Graduation video streams which are recorded and streamed on the day of the graduations.  The streamed versions are archived by IT Services, in addtion, the Media Production Unit also produce a highly polished edited version available for purchase.
  • Stevenson Lectures.  This is a series of public lectures on citizenship that are recorded and streamed.  The lectures are then archived.

Off-air recording  

We offer an off-air recording service for the recording of terrestrial television (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4, C5 and free to view channels) and radio programmes for use within your department under the University's ERA (Educational Recording Agency) licence. We also hold a BUFVC Licence, which means we can obtain any past-transmitted programmes, a service for which the BUFVC charges £25.
