Implementing subject-specific GTA training and support

This subsection provides suggestions and help for staff seeking to implement a structure of support and training at School, Subject or course level. There are a number of things to keep in mind:  

• There are a few University guidelines and policies that are worth considering in relation to GTA training and support.
• It is a good idea to consider how the subject-specific training can supplement the statutory training and other continuing professional development training sessions.
• A University-wide survey into GTA experience, provided some useful insights into how training and support in assessment and feedback might improve the experience for GTAs.
• Be inspired by the Toolkit’s list of suggested activities for subject-specific marking and feedback training as well as a list of suggestions for how you can put in place further support. 
• You can also read the case studies to find get more details about what other Schools and Subjects have done to support GTAs in assessment and feedback.
• Finally, make sure that youask the GTAs what they need and what they would find useful or would have found useful when they started.
