The Hunterian

Join our curators via Zoom every Tuesday this October for a special series of free talks. Each will explore The Hunterian collection's cultural legacy from a different area of expertise, investigating Scotland's complicity in slavery and colonialism to reveal a more truthful rendering of the past.

The Hunterian is the oldest public museum in Scotland (1807), in one of the oldest Scottish universities (1451) and is deeply rooted in Scotland's complex and problematic history. Cultural heritage sites recognise that for years they have been complicit in perpetuating the ideologies of the previous centuries. The Hunterian is continuing this conversation by widening the range of responses to the objects held in its collections.
