For the third year in a row, we’re partnering with our good friends at Glasgow Science Festival, to bring you this very special CinemARC event. To celebrate World Ocean Day, we’ve got two screenings that showcase the wonders of our oceans.

Before the film, during World Ocean Day at the ARC during Glasgow Science Festival, you can attend a researcher panel, 'The Future of Oceans' details of which can be found here.

For the final screening of the day, we’re pleased to be showing the 2002’s Whale Rider. Join us for this heartbreaking Māori tale about legacy, family, and acceptance.

Whale Rider | 2002 | 101 mins | PG

In this cult coming-of-age classic set on the east coast of New Zealand, 12-year-old Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes) dreams of becoming chief of her Māori tribe, tracing her ancestry back to the legendary whale rider, Paikea. Tradition dictates that the leader must be male, and her grandfather, Koro (Rawiri Paratene), refuses to acknowledge her potential. As Pai strives to prove herself, she demonstrates that courage, love and determination can challenge even the most deeply held beliefs.
