Time: 13:00 - 15:00
Venue: Advanced Research Centre (ARC), University of Glasgow

The Glasgow Salons for Arts and Sciences (GOSAS) is a Glasgow Crucible Seed-funded interdisciplinary initiative inspired by the salon culture of the Scottish Enlightenment. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, artists, scientists, and philosophers gathered informally to exchange ideas across disciplinary boundaries, creating spaces that fostered intellectual innovation and social progress.
Today, many of the most pressing societal challenges are inherently interdisciplinary, yet academic work often remains siloed. GOSAS seeks to revive the spirit of the historical salon by recreating its relaxed, conversational format—providing a space where University of Glasgow staff and students from across disciplines can come together with the wider public to explore major societal challenges through open discussion and shared curiosity.
