Two essays (each of up to 1500 words) (40% each)

Small group online discussion on set text (20%)

Course Aims

To introduce students to the discipline of English Literature and to enable them to develop academic literacies necessary for Level 1 undergraduate study in the College of Arts & Humanities.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students should be able to:

■ Identify key themes in English literature and analyse the linguistic techniques used to develop these in set texts.

■ Correctly and confidently use the key terminology of literary study.

■ Recognise and construct arguments, in an appropriate academic form, to English literature questions
