Subject combinations

Within the MA Social Sciences and across the three general degrees at the University, it is possible to study a range of subjects in combination with each other. During your pre-honours years (first and second year) you'll be expected to take courses in multiple subjects and may eventually decide to complete a joint honours degree in which you specialise in two subjects. 

To help you with making choices about your degree plan and courses, we have put together two charts to help you see what combinations of subjects are possible. Both of these charts are subject to change and just because a subject combination is possible, does not mean that you'll always be able to take that combination of courses or transfer to joint honours in those subjects. This is due to various factors:

1. Timetabling issues. With so many combinations of subjects some teaching timetable clashes are unavoidable.
2. Capacity constraints. Some subjects are more popular than others and so we need to restrict access to courses to ensure that students 'on plan' for that subject are able to enrol.
3. Progression and other degree requirements. In order to meet the progression requirements on the MA Social Sciences and any special subject requirements, you may need to do some courses rather than others.
