Political Economy Futures Forum
About Us
The Political Economy Futures Forum (PEFF) is a sustained, self-aware community of researchers committed to addressing big, enduring questions about the relationship between the economy and society. We share a common research interest in political economy and its potential to build democratic, equitable, and sustainable economies and organizations. PEFF represents a University-wide platform for promoting political economy research and its role in tackling current and future challenges. As a College of Social Science Interdisciplinary Research Theme, we are a core strategic initiative at the University of Glasgow. PEFF is led and run by a team of early and mid-career scholars, and we aim to develop skills and capabilities for PGRs and early career researchers, as well as foster collaboration across the University. We hope to consolidate our shared expertise to establish and promote excellent research while generating wider societal benefits.
The key activities are the PEFF Research Seminars. The seminars build community across the scope of PEFF research and help participants develop excellent research in a collegial environment. We particularly welcome cross-disciplinary contributions from early career researchers and scholars from underrepresented groups. By fostering close connections, the PEFF seminar will, in turn, lead to the development of significant funding bids, especially by developing interdisciplinary capacity to answer targeted thematic funding calls. Responsibility for organizing the seminar rotates across the theme leads. All seminars will run in a hybrid format, to ensure accessibility. See our upcoming seminar topics on our webpage, and you can find our list of past seminars here.

The leadership team maintains close connections to other University initiatives and fully aligns with their work. These include the Centre for Public Policy, the Glasgow Centre for International Development, the Glasgow Labour and Employment Network, and the College of Social Sciences Research Office.
The leadership team is committed to early career leadership, democratic decision-making, and long-term flexibility to ensure inclusivity and support of a wide range of colleagues across the College. Our thematic structure is designed to foster both inclusion across the College and democratic decision-making on research activities, with College members, determining activities along with the relevant IRT lead. We enthusiastically welcome proposals (formal and informal) for new PEFF related activities and are eager to co-sponsor relevant events.
