Data Analytics

Data analysis at SRF aims to help you get the most out of your biological data. We can perform many types of statistical and machine-learning analyses on biological outputs and specialise in the interpretation of omics data at the individual feature and pathway level.

Design of Experiments

Figuring out the best design for biological and medical experiments involving complex measurements can be difficult. Our team can discuss your requirements and help get the most out of your samples.

What we offer:

  • Pre-design discussion to find factors of interest
  • Investigation of confounding factors
  • Power analyses to help judge necessary sample size

Statistical Inference and Biomarker Discovery

Many researches want to understand how their system of study behaves under
perturbation. We can perform standard statistical analyses on 'omics and other
biological data to help understand significant changes. We can also help
with selecting biomarkers for further validation and study.

What we offer:

  • t-tests and ANOVA
  • Linear modelling
  • Covariate inclusion
  • Feature selection
  • Sensitivity Analysis

Machine Learning Algorithms

Running machine learning algorithms on biological data can sometimes feel daunting, especially in trying to interpret the outputs. We understand the main issues with these methods and can make sure that inferences are robust and suitable for publication.

What we offer:

  • Hierarchical and flat clustering
  • Regression and Classification including LASSO and Random Forest
  • Projection techniques including PCA, MDS and t-SNEU
  • Internal Validation using cross validation or bootstrapping
  • Interpretable ML outputs

Disease Modelling and Classification

Researchers often want to be able to model disease as a function of omics-type data. We can design classification or regression models to predict new cases given previous experiments.

What we offer:

  • ROC analysis
  • Logistic Regression
  • Comparision to clinical measures
  • Sensitivity Analysis
  • Robust conclusions

Training, Applications and Writing

If you have biostatistical or machine-learning training needs for a group, we can help design and run courses to your specification. We can also help
with grant applications and the write up and validation of final results for publication.
