ACcEPT - Assess Clinical Effectiveness of Prioritising CT Heads

What is it: Artificial Intelligence (AI) software which will analyse non-contrast CT head scans performed in the Emergency Department at various sites. The software will create a secondary capture including its findings and a summary slide which can be viewed by both clinicians and radiologists.

Lead: Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, London

Who else is involved: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow; Oxford University Hospital; Oxford and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Northumberland.

Team: Qure.ai, DHVL, West of Scotland Innovation Hub, NHS SafeHaven, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

What is it going to do: The aim of this study is to improve report turnaround times for CT head scans and create a prioritised worklist of scans with critical findings at the top. This will allow clinicians in the Emergency Department to make faster decisions around the care and management of these patients.

When: Autumn 2023 – Summer 2024

DHVL purpose: Supporting the project through its inception, development, and its evaluation of the AI technology. Furthermore, this research will contribute to creating further opportunities for AI and Radiology for Healthcare in Scotland to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
