Connor Blair: PhD Drug Discovery & Development

PhD Student testimonials - photo of studentHaving lived in Glasgow all my life, I studied my Undergraduate in Neuroscience and Masters in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Glasgow.

Glasgow is my home, so when I was offered a Ph.D. at Glasgow University the decision was easy for me!!

I am carrying out a Drug Discovery & Development Ph.D. with Portage Glasgow Ltd, a Biotech start-up company created through a joint venture between the University of Glasgow and Portage Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

One of the many greats things about my Ph.D. is the fusion between academia and industry. This has allowed me to gain invaluable insights into each sectors role within biomedical research and has opened many doors regarding my future career prospects.

As Portage Glasgow is a brand-new start-up company, currently with me being the only employee working within the lab, I am heavily responsible for driving all my Ph.D. / Portage Glasgow’s projects.

What’s great about this is my involvement in all aspects of Portage Glasgow’s project development (academic/industrial and business related) and have presented/contributed to multiple senior advisory board meetings and at an international conference.

My academic and industrial advisors support has been second-to-none, encouraging me to get involved with all aspects of the scientific research and company development, whilst also giving me the independence I need to develop my personal skills and progress throughout my Ph.D.

Best job in the world!
