Bioinformatics for Wet-Lab Biologists - Online Course

Bioinformatics for wet-lab biologists is a comprehensive training course for PhD students and Post-Docs. If you have omic datasets to analyse or want to upskill yourself, we can help!

Our course is aimed at wet-lab biologists with no previous experience of omics or R. It is 100% entry level, and designed to equip you with the skills and confidence to perform your own omic analysis of any dataset. It is highly skills based and practical, and has great depth of theory.

Format: The course runs all year round, as a combination of self paced learning and optional weekly live drop-in sessions. It is divided into 5 sub-courses that work in a pic n' mix style. You can choose any combination of sub-courses that work for you. For PhD students credits can be claimed for each sub-course.

Omic Data Analysis & Visualisation using R

Single Cell and Spatial Omics

Further Omics, Clinical Data and Statistics using R

Essential Command Line Omics & Genome Analysis

Metagenomics

Payment & Registration: The course costs £695pp, for 1 year’s access. The MVLS Graduate School will pay for half of the costs. You, the student must find funding to match the remaining amount. Only 15 places are available.

To register, please fill out this form: https://forms.office.com/r/yu0jhVi426

Note: We have had over 3k attendees since 2019, with a mean rating of 9.5 / 10, after over 400 PhD and Post-Doc reviews. If you have previously been on a different course, and felt stressed or overwhelmed, we promise our course is completely different. We have a unique approach, more gently paced, enjoyable, and targeted at both biologists and beginners. We are here to help equip you with useful skills, in a way that works for you.

Glasgow Science Festival Internship

Volunteering applications will open in Autumn 2025 for 16 places available in May/June 2026.

Glasgow Science Festival (GSF) run a variety of projects throughout the year including the main festival in June.

To deliver these projects the GSF recruit a team of reliable and motivated volunteers who can get involved in many different aspects; from demonstrating science activities at our family days and community events, welcoming guests to evening events and helping behind the scenes - generally making sure our events run smoothly!

They offer training opportunities for the volunteers in advance of the festival and 'on-the-job' training to ensure that they get the most from the experience.

For insurance purposes, our volunteers must be current University of Glasgow staff and students, aged 18+.
