PARTNERSHIP DAY PGR STUDENT SHOWCASE COMPETITION

Life Sciences Partnership Day is taking place on Wednesday 1st October 2025 and we are delighted to create an opportunity for:

  • CASE studentships,
  • MVLS industry partnership PhDs, and
  • Medical Research Scotland studentships with an industry partner,

to present a poster, showcasing their research to attendees, including industry collaborators (new and existing), funders and academics. The agenda for the day is attached for your reference with details of the event venue and time.

This competition will encourage our PGR students to think about their research, how it fits ‘big picture’, and even the next steps in their career.

We are asking students to submit a 1min film, speaking to camera, about how they would make the most of this opportunity and why they should be selected. This will give our students an opportunity to practise research communication. We don’t need you to be a budding Greta Gerwig or Steven Spielberg – this is not a film-making competition! Smartphone submissions are what we want with the substance of your submission being of importance. For guidance, you may want to think about:

  • A short (emphasis on short!) introduction to you,
  • A short overview of your research project and what you hope to achieve,
  • Why this would be the perfect project to showcase at Life Sciences Partnership Day.

UofG Public Engagement support all of our researchers and students engage with stakeholder groups. As such, guidance on how to make a video can be found here.

Submission need to be received by Monday 25th August to mvls-studentships@glasgow.ac.uk . These will then be reviewed by our judging panel, which will include the Dean of Postgraduate Research, Prof Stu Nicklin and Associate Dean of Postgraduate Research, Prof Megan MacLeod. Pitches will be judged and selected base on the clarity of the video presentation and the case made for the novelty/innovation and impact (or potential impact for those in early stages) of the project. Judges reserve the right to make their selection based on ensuring a breadth of different disciplinary research is presented.

Winners will be announced by Friday 5th September, giving successful students time to design and print their poster before the event. Guidance on how to design a research poster can be found here.

If you have any support needs where we can help you with amendments to your submission, please contact us. Any questions can be directed to mvls-studentships@glasgow.ac.uk.

Good luck and we look forward to receiving your submissions!
