Academic Appeals Committee

Composition of the College of Arts and Humanities Academic Appeals Committee

The College of Arts & Humanities Appeals Committee shall be constituted as follows:

Convenor: Dean of Learning, Teaching & Student Experience, Dean of Graduate Studies

Deputy Convenor: Deputy Dean (PGT)

Membership: Up to 14 members drawn from each of the schools.

In Attendance: Deputy Head of College Student Services, Clerk to the Committee

Remit

To consider appeals in relation to academic decisions concerning progress, assessment or award other than decisions taken in respect of proceedings under the Coder of Student Conduct, the Complaints Handling Procedure or the Procedure for determining Fitness to Practice.

Reporting

The Committee reports annually to Academic Policy and Governance.

Regulations governing student appeals can be found on the Academic Policy & Governance Webpage.

Students may only appeal grades or decisions if there are grounds for appeal.

The grounds for appeal are:

i.             Unfair or defective procedure.

ii.            Failure to take account of medical or other adverse personal circumstances.

iii.           Relevant medical or other adverse personal circumstances which for good reason have not previously been presented.

Should you wish to proceed with your appeal, you should notify your intention to appeal to the Deputy Head of College Student Services – within 10 days of publication of ratified results in MyCampus. Notify your intention to appeal by completing the online form – Notice of Intention to Submit.
