Dr Sean Callanan appointed as Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

Dr Callanan is appointed as fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons following his work to advance education and scholarship.
University of Glasgow alumnus, Dr Callanan, has been appointed as Fellow of the Royal College Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). The RCVS Fellowship is awarded to a select group of veterinary leaders who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the profession, knowledge and clinical practice. This year, only 31 individuals were named, and Dr. Callanan is one of eight recognized for Meritorious Contributions to Knowledge for his work to advance education and scholarship.
Dr Callanan has been a leader in veterinary medicine, research, and pathology for 35 years with more than 100 research publications and several leadership positions with the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, London’s Royal College of Pathologists, and Committee on Veterinary Pathology. During his time as RUSVM dean—a position he has held since 2016—the university has grown its research programs, established a graduate certificate in One Health, and has expanded partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions. Under his leadership and advocacy, RUSVM has become a leader in recruiting and graduating DVM students from diverse backgrounds to help diversify the profession.
Dr Callanan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1994 with a PhD in Veterinary Medicine.
