Alumni from the Aberdeen area gathered for dinner at the Royal Northern and University Club

The University of Glasgow Aberdeen Club were delighted to hold their annual dinner for the first time since the pandemic, and gathered on 5 November at the Royal Northern and University Club.

More than 50 alumni and guests attended and heard excellent speeches from Lord Uist, former Senator of the College of Justice, Professor Andrew Tobin, Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow, and Councillor Barney Crockett, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen.

The President of the Aberdeen Club, Sheriff Douglas Cusine, presented Professor Tobin with a cheque for £600 for the University’s new Advanced Research Centre, fundraised by members of the club. The Club hopes to hold its AGM in March 2022, but it is uncertain when the popular pub nights will resume.

The club is very grateful for the encouragement given by the UofG Alumni Office during this difficult time. Two members of staff, Miss Rosemary Simm, Alumni Officer (Groups and Networks) and Mrs Margaret Clift, Head of Strategic Philanthropy, made the journey to join us. Rosemary to meet old friends and Margaret to meet members for the first time, as she has recently joined the University of Glasgow team.

New members are always welcome, if you are based in the Aberdeen area and interested in joining, please contact Club Secretary Evelyn Dobson at evelynmdobson@outlook.com.
