The Glasgow Students Study is a research dataset of almost 16,000 people who studied at the University of Glasgow between 1948 and 1972. As part of a UK-wide student health survey, participants attended a medical examination and completed a questionnaire through the University's medical practice.

In the early 1990s, researchers at the University of Glasgow compiled these records into a research database and linked them to national health records to examine how later-life health and longevity are associated with early-life factors such as blood pressure, weight, family circumstances and childhood illness.

The study moved to the University of Bristol in the mid-1990s, and surviving participants were invited to complete a follow-up questionnaire between 2000 and 2003. To date, the dataset has contributed to 34 published research papers, with further studies planned.

As the study began many decades ago, researchers are encouraging anyone who believes they may be a participant and does not wish their data to be used in future research to learn more about their options, including withdrawal from the study. A Public Advisory Group has been established to both (i) represent the interests of those who contributed to this and five other cohorts and (ii) ensure the optimal use of their valuable data in health research.
