Professor Gordon Mackay (MBChB 1987, MD 1997) features in the new film-documentary Make It to Munich, which screened at the Glasgow Film Theatre on 15–16 May 2025.
The film follows the extraordinary recovery of Ethan Walker, a young Scottish footballer who, after suffering life-threatening injuries in a road accident, returned home from the U.S. to undergo complex multi-ligament surgery using Professor Mackay’s pioneering Internal Brace technique.
What began as a bold suggestion from surgeon to patient - to cycle from Glasgow to Munich for Scotland’s opening match at Euro 2024 - quickly turned into a remarkable journey of resilience, friendship, and belief. Joined by filmmaker Martyn Robertson and Tartan Army foot soldier Stephen Collie, the 1,200km expedition is documented in a moving and inspiring film about recovery and the power of sport.
The film premiered at the 2025 Glasgow Film Festival and returned for two special nights before touring Scotland with special guests, such as Steven Naismith, Former Scotland Player and Cyclist Stephen Collie.
