Coronavirus: information for offer holders and prospective students

As we prepare for the next academic year, we are monitoring government guidance on COVID-19. We will update this page as information becomes available.

Teaching in 2021/22

Our aim is to provide students with the on-campus experience that we value so much.

  • From September, we intend to offer a blended approach. We hope to deliver a mix of online and in-person teaching. We will increase on-campus activities as it becomes safe to do so.
  • Our world-class resources will also be open for students to access. This includes our Library, social spaces and our sports facilities.

Colleges and academic teams will share more information about individual programmes soon.

COVID-19 protection measures

The health, safety, and wellbeing of our community is our priority.

To make sure that our campuses remain COVID-secure: 

  • Enhanced cleaning and physical distancing measures are in place in all buildings
  • We have our own COVID testing centre on the main campus. This offers regular testing for students and staff.

Travelling to the UK

If you have a visa for the UK then you are classed as a temporary resident so can enter the UK. However you will need to comply with the Red, Amber, Green regulations.

Managed Quarantine Support

We are delighted to announce that the University will cover quarantine costs of £1,750 for students resident in countries on the UKVI red list, who are joining Team UofG from this September.

The University will cover the quarantine costs for you if you are joining us in September 2021 and:

  • made your application to the University before 15 June
  • are domiciled in a country which remains on UK red list following publication on 15 June, and
  • are required to undertake a period of quarantine in a quarantine hotel, in line with UK government guidelines.

Students will also be required to follow all relevant UKVI guidelines and regulations relating to quarantine and testing.

Travelling from an Amber List country

If you have been in an amber country or territory in the 10 days before you arrive you must:

  • take a COVID-19 test
  • book and pay for day 2 and day 8 COVID-19 travel tests – to be taken after arrival  
  • complete a passenger locator form

On arrival in the UK you must:

  • isolate for 10 days in wherever your student accommodation is
  • take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8

We are pleased to confirm that students arriving from amber list countries and staying in University of Glasgow residences may be able to arrive at their residence up to 10 days prior to the contract start date of the 10 September at no additional accommodation cost.

If you live in an amber list country, it’s important to plan your journey to Glasgow carefully. If you transit through a red list country, then it’s likely you will be eligible for quarantine measures in an official hotel and the cost of £1,750. Therefore, please bear this in mind when planning air travel and keep an eye on the green, amber and red regulations.

Vaccinations for students

UK students

The Scottish Government’s 18-29 Registration Service closed on 11 June. Vaccination appointments will start from mid-June.

If you didn’t register via the online registration portal, your local NHS Board will send out an appointment to you via the post. You should make sure that your address details registered at your GP surgery are up to date so that you aren’t missed.

International students

The Scottish Government has announced that international students are included in the national coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination programme for the coming academic year (2021/22). There will be more details about this released in due course.

International students living in the UK and registered with a General Practitioner (GP) can access healthcare. This includes access to COVID-19 vaccinations.

When students arrive in the UK, they should register with a local GP surgery as soon as possible.

Registration, enrolment and documents

You will be able to register and enrol for the academic year 2021/22 from mid-August. Please note the latest date for registration and enrolment is the 11 October 2021.

The academic year will commence on 13 September 2021, during which time you will be expected to participate in relevant academic inductions. Teaching officially starts on 20 September 2021. We expect students to join us on campus where physically possible. However, should you be unable to arrive for the start of the academic year, it will be possible to begin your studies online for many of our degree programmes, before transitioning to on-campus study when it is safe and feasible to do so.

If your programme does require you to be at the University by a certain date in order to complete mandatory on-campus learning requirements, you will be notified directly. Further information regarding the arrangements for individual programmes will be shared by the Colleges and programme academic teams in the coming weeks.

Uploaded documents

All documents uploaded via applicant self-service are currently being reviewed within 5 working days.

Admissions will focus on confirmation processing for Unconditional offers from 15 May 2021.


We will begin or start CAS issue for academic year 2021/2022 from 22 June 2021. 


You may request to defer your place only once your place has been confirmed (i.e. you are an Unconditional Firm applicant), up until 31 August 2021, but it is not automatically granted. Please note that deferrals are not considered for Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Veterinary Medicine courses and generally not considered for Teacher Education degrees.

We advise that students are certain that they would like to defer before they request this, as we may not be able to reverse a deferral decision easily. Any applicant that defers should update SAAS and the Student Loans Company. You can also apply for deferred entry via UCAS, but please note that it will not be possible to change your year of entry once you have applied. If you are an Unconditional Firm applicant and you would like to request a deferral, you can do so by contacting us via the enquiry form. Please include your UCAS ID so that we can locate your application.

Indian High School Results

The Indian Government recently announced that National and State Board Standard XII examinations in 2021 have been cancelled. We understand that grades for Standard XII qualifications will be awarded this year on the basis of evidence provided by schools and verified by the awarding bodies.

UofG will accept the grades awarded by CBSE and CISCE, and which appear on your certificate of results as normal. Please provide us with a copy of your digital results as soon as these are available. These documents should be uploaded to Applicant Self Service.
