This course develops student competencies in planning, writing and producing worship materials including spoken liturgies, prayer and rituals and leading these in the context of Christian Worship.

10 x 2 hr classes across 1 semester, with a mixture of lecture and seminar combinations. (10 hrs lecture/10 hrs of seminar) as scheduled on MyCampus.

The standard assessments for this course are:

■ An essay on liturgy and the human life cycle of 1000 words - 40%

■ A critical self-evaluation of a class delivered original liturgy incorporating the appraisal and feedback, the evaluation form completed by the appraiser, an annotated resources list demonstrating the reading and e-resources consulted during preparation, any other non-written materials used in or associated with the class presentations. 1000 words exclusive of liturgy text, evaluation form and annotated resources list - 60%

This course aims to:

■ extend student competence in the planning and production of worship materials including spoken liturgies, prayer and rituals.

■ explore the significance of worship and ritual in relation to the human life cycle

■ examine resources which are helpful in the construction of Christian worship

■ develop student competence in crafting material appropriate to key activities within a Christian worship service.

■ support the development of writing, and presentation skills through active practice.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ identify key principles used in the writing and delivery of spoken liturgy and prayer

■ critically review liturgical material and rituals used for a significant event in the human life cycle

■ employ a variety of web and text-based resources for researching and constructing worship materials

■ evaluate their own materials and practice as a worship leader and supportively critique the work of colleagues.
