Short Description

This course provides the basic knowledge needed to read the New Testament in the original Greek.

Timetable

3 x 1hr sessions per week over 10 weeks in each semester as scheduled on MyCampus.

Assessment

Coursework: 12 short language exercises submitted throughout the year with all pieces finally submitted by March. (25%)

Examination of 2 hours duration (75%)

Course Aims

This course will provide the opportunity to:

■ introduce students to key concepts in the study of Greek language

■ familiarise students with the basic features of the forms and structure of Greek as used in the New Testament

■ equip students with a basic Greek vocabulary targeted at reading the New Testament.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ translate simple unseen passages from the New Testament into English

■ answer questions about the forms of words used and structure of sentences.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
