Biography
I first joined the CVR in 2017 as a Technician in the NGS group. Over time our facility and my responsibilities grew substantially and in 2022 my role changed to Laboratory Manager.
As Lab Manager for CVR Genomics I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of the CVR’s sequencing laboratories. This involves looking after all of our high-value specialist equipment, rooms, and infrastructure. I also have oversight of health and safety, IT systems, and quality management.
Prior to the CVR, I obtained my bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Edinburgh and spent many years in industry conducting and developing diagnostic assays in accredited labs.
Research interests
Over the years I have worked on sequencing a variety of viruses including African swine fever virus, hepatitis B virus and human respiratory viruses, such as influenza and SARS-CoV2. The primary focus of this has been on maximising genome coverage breadth and depth through utilisation of targeted enrichment and host-depletion methodologies and Illumina sequencers.
