Summary

Join us for a series of geological walking tours offering a hands-on introduction to reading the landscape through a geologist’s eyes.

We’ll visit a unique location each week to study the geology and geomorphology across the Central Belt. Excursions include: Portencross, West Kilbride; Balmaha, Loch Lomond, Ardmore Point, nr Helensburgh; Muirshiel Country Park, Lochwinnoch; and Dumbarton Rock. Through field observations and discussions, you’ll learn about the processes that have shaped Scotland’s landscape over time. We’ll uncover a fascinating record of past environments, from colliding continents that formed mighty mountain chains to ancient desert dunes and erupting volcanoes.

No prior knowledge of geology is required and there’ll be light walking on some uneven surfaces. Excursions are accessible by public transport from Glasgow, or your own transport.
