Biography

I lead a team who provide support services for Open Research including open access, research data management, and open research tools and initiatives.  It is a dynamic environment.  I enjoy working with knowledgeable and passionate researchers and professional services staff across the University.  I love to join things up.

The main driver for the work is good practice in research.  Much of the research is publicly funded and sharing has many benefits.  This is set within a framework of external funder and government policy requirements such as the UK Research Excellence Exercise, and in the context of research culture.

My involvement in many national and international projects and groups help us to keep abreast of, and share, developments.  For example, I have an active role in the UK Reproducibility Network Open Research Programme and am on two Open Science Monitoring Initiative working groups.

I love to share and learn and have produced many outputs around open research. A benefit of this is that I get to experience the publishing and editing process like the authors we support, and so can better understand their needs. 

I initiated and continue to drive the Open Research Scotland networking group which won the Hidden REF 2024 context category.  

My work history includes managing information for land and seismic surveys, oil wells, clinical trials, and software houses.  I have a postgraduate qualification in Information Management Systems.
