Research interests extend to the application of viruses as gene therapy vectors and vaccines (Morrison et al., 2003) and to the investigation, and potential application of, cytokines in domestic animal species (Hanlon et al. 2001, OÆDonovan et al., 2005). With Professor Iain Morgan we are currently engineering canine adenoviruses (Morrison et al., 2002) as conditionally replicating oncolytic vectors for the potential therapy of canine cancer. In addition, in collaboration with Dr Diane Addie and Dr Stephen Dunham, we are conducting research into feline coronavirus infection in cats (Addie et al. 2003). Our pilot study on equine inflammatory airway disease, with Dr Kris Hughes and Dr Stephen Dunham, has identified a potential role for specific cytokines in this disease and we aim to further investigate the aetiology of this disease.
