Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Research Fellow from October 2016.

Dr Karen Siegel joined the School of Social and Political Sciences as Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Research Fellow in October. Karen received her PhD in Politics from the University of Glasgow in 2014. Her research interests include sustainable development, natural resource governance, regional cooperation, Latin America and South-North relations. Her current research project focuses on conflicts over resource exploitation in Latin America and their implications for the quality of democracy and inclusive sustainable development. Her previous work examined regional environmental cooperation in the Southern Cone of South America building on extensive fieldwork in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay and she has been a visiting researcher at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) Argentina. Prior to returning to Glasgow Karen was a Lecturer in Politics at Edinburgh Napier University where she led courses on environmental politics, research methods and British politics in Edinburgh and in Hong Kong in cooperation with Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education. Before her PhD she worked in Brussels for two years for the European Commission and the consultancy Bernard Brunhes International.
