Professor Christine Davies, OBE, FRSE, FInstP, Professor and Head of the Particle Physics theory group, University of Glasgow, is awarded the RSE/Lord Kelvin Medal.

Professor Christine Davies, OBE, FRSE, FInstP, Professor and Head of the Particle Physics theory group, University of Glasgow, is awarded the RSE/Lord Kelvin Medal for her outstanding contribution to theoretical particle physics through the development and exploitation of techniques for accurate calculations in strong interaction physics that enable stringent tests of the Standard Model and searches for new physics, and for her extensive contributions to diversity and inclusion and public engagement.

Professor Christine Davies said, “My collaborators and I have had a great time working on computational techniques for handling the strong interaction over the past twenty years. It is fantastic to be able to do accurate calculations now, that can make a real difference to how we interpret experimental results coming from, for example, the Large Hadron Collider. I am very hopeful that the calculations we are working on currently will enable us to pin down a discrepancy between experiment and the Standard Model and give us a firm pointer to new physics in the next few years.”
