A team, led by Bjoern Seitz from the School of Physics & Astronomy, has been accepted onto the inaugural Cancer Tech Accelerator (https://www.cancertechaccelerator.co.uk).

The ‘Lomond’ team, which includes Nuclear Physics Group researchers David Mahon, Rick Gray and Frank Thomson, is developing innovative radiation detector technologies to improve the accuracy of cancer diagnosis and therapy.  This development includes STFC Cancer Diagnosis Network+ funded research into compact beta detectors for radio-guided glioblastoma biopsy that started in June 2021.

The team will now embark upon a 12-week training programme led by leading entrepreneurs and clinicians in the field of cancer research.  At the end of this phase, they will compete for £50,000 seed funding to spin out and to continue the development of their cancer technologies to help in the fight against cancer.
