Biography
I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based in the West of Scotland. My surgical practice includes the management of prosthetic joint infection and salvage orthopaedics, metastatic bone disease, general trauma, primary and revision lower limb arthroplasty.
I undertook fellowship training as the ZimmerBiomet Adult Reconstruction Travelling Fellow in Vancouver in 2016 and in the Sarcoma and Infection Unit of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham.
I have always had a keen research interest having undertaken a BMedSci in oestrogen receptor expression in breast carcinoma during my undergraduate training. Having moved to Glasgow for surgical training I then undertook a postgraduate PhD in nanoscale surface modification and bone marrow stem cell response.
I have always had a fascination for how osteoblasts and osteoclast interact within the bone and this became the focus for my PhD, where i developed an in vitro co-culture to represent the bone marrow niche in order to assess surface response.
I have continued to support stem cell research following my PhD and have diversified my interests including into other key areas of Orthopaedics such as biofilm imaging and synovial glycome.

Teaching
I am the education supervisor for a resident trainee within the Trauma & Orthopaedic rotation, and clincal supervisor for a clinical fellow with a specialty interest in revision arthroplasty and management of metastatic bone disease. I undertake weekly teaching of medical students within clinics and wards during their Orthopaedic specialty rotation.
I lecture on the stem cell engineering for regenerative medicine MSc within the University of Glasgow.
I teach arthroplasty techniques on cadaveric and saw bone courses with industry partners including DePuy Synthes, Stryker and Heraeus.
