Dr M Kamala Devi

Biography

Dr M Kamala Devi began her career as a general trained nurse and went on to specialise in adult and paediatric Oncology nursing. During her clinical years at the Singapore General Hospital, she was involved in managerial and operational responsibilities besides staff development, mentoring and coaching duties.  

She subsequently embarked on her journey to train future nurses for the profession, first at the School of Health Sciences, Nanyang Polytechnic and later at the National University of Singapore. During the period, Kamala Devi was extensively involved in curriculum development and implementation of both formal and short courses,assessment related matters and clinical supervision. In September 2023, Kamala Devi joined the University of Glasgow as the Programme Director Nursing for the BSc (Hons) Nursing programme jointly offered by University of Glasgow and the Singapore Institute of Technology. 

Kamala Devi is a reviewer in several local, regional and international journals. She sits on the Editorial Board of the Asia Pacific Journal of Oncology Nursing and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Singapore Nursing Journal. She is also a Board member of the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB), member of the Education Committee and Audit and Risk Committee of the SNB and a Board Director of the Singapore Nurses Association. 

 

Research interests

Dr Kamala Devi’s research interest lies in areas of innovation in educational pedagogy, interprofessional education, ethics and professionalism, women’s health and quality of life, cancer and palliative care and psychosocial issues.
