Biography

Sarah is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries campus, where she joined the team in June 2023. Prior to this, whilst working as a local Headteacher, she volunteered as a Teaching Fellow. This experience now supports the strong connections with the local authority as she takes on leadership of school placement co-ordination for education students.

Sarah began her career in the tourism sector after earning a degree in Spanish Studies with Catalan Philology from the University of Sheffield. She spent several years living in Spain and working in tourism before returning to Scotland to teach Travel and Tourism HNC and HND at Angus College. This experience sparked a passion for education, leading her to complete a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Dundee.

Her teaching career has taken her across Scotland—from Aberdeenshire to Dumfries and Galloway—where she latterly served as a Primary Headteacher. During her time in schools, she completed the Scottish Qualification for Headship (SQH) and earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Stirling.

In 2018, Sarah joined the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) as a Development Officer. In this role, she delivered Fitness to Teach training nationwide and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, shifted to support student teacher operations. This work included close collaboration with local authority Probation Managers, Probationers, Initial Teacher Education providers, and other national partners. Passionate about Gaelic language and culture, she has also contributed to national initiatives supporting Gaelic Medium Education.

Sarah brings a wealth of experience from both education and industry, underpinned by a deep commitment to supporting student teachers and strengthening the links between universities, schools, and communities.
