Ancient DNA suggests crannogs were party spots for the elites

New research recently published in the Journal Antiquity

New research recently published in the Journal Antiquity, led by Prof Tony Brown University of Southampton, and colleagues, including Prof Nicki Whitehouse, University of Glasgow, was recently reported upon within the Research Highlights section of the international journal Nature

The team took sediment samples from in and around crannogs in Scotland and Ireland; ancient DNA from the sediments recorded that humans had stored cereal crops and large numbers of animals on the islands. Biomolecules and other environmental remains also suggested that crannog sites were used for food storage, butchery and perhaps ceremonial feasts.
