Launch of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Lab (VRAR Lab)

With support from the College of Arts, the Centre has also launched the Virtual Reality Teaching Ideas Competition

The Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience has launched the Virtual and Augmented Reality Lab (VRAR Lab) to host research projects, teaching initiatives, and knowledge exchange events.  Founded in January 2017 with the support of the Knowledge Exchange Fund within the University, the Lab has hosted the “Philosophy of Augmented and Virtual Reality” research project, funded by the Sir John Templeton Foundation (via the “New Directions in the Study of the Mind” project), has hosted an Knowledge Exchange Expert Seminar with commercial partners, the Soluis Group  and will host a philosophy research workshop on the topic over the summer.

With support from the College of Arts, the Centre has also launched the Virtual Reality Teaching Ideas Competition, with the aim of developing ten outstanding teaching applications which utilise Virtual Reality. Whilst that competition is ongoing, the Centre, together with commercial partners Soluis, have submitted a major Innovate UK funding bid, and are preparing further bids to capitalise on the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s new strategic focus on “Immersive Technology”.”
