    This course is designed to inform and refresh appointed doctors in legislation and best practice.

    In addition, this course will provide a valuable supplement to the knowledge and skills for other Occupational Health and Safety practitioners, including those in training, who have an interest in the wider health standards for those who work with or are exposed to Asbestos.

    The course is run by the Healthy Working Lives Group and is delivered by experts from the HSE and clinical practice in this area.

    Aims

    • To raise the competence of those involved in Asbestos issues by refreshing and informing appointed doctors in relation to legislation and best practice.
    • To offer this course to the wider Occupational Health practitioner community.

    Objectives

    • To provide legislative updates.
    • To provide updated clinical experience in the detection and management of Asbestos related disease.
    • To provide information and expertise in the event of unplanned exposure to Asbestos.

    Effective Leadership for Health Professionals

    The Foundation Course in Effective Leadership and Management for Delivering Clinical Services is a two day course building a foundation on which to develop leadership skills in the context of healthcare delivery.

    Leading and managing effective health and work services in today’s Public and Private sectors is challenging. We are expected to not only to be able to manage, demonstrate value and provide quality services, but also be leaders within the business in which we operate.

    This unique course explores the skills and expertise which are required to deliver within these areas, including at board and operational team levels. The speakers all have a proven track record of high level management effectiveness.

    The course is run over two days with 3 distinct themed modules:

    3. Managing Change

    Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)

    Course details

    This 2-day course is run by the Healthy Working Lives Group and is designed to meet the syllabus requirements for a Faculty of Occupational Medicine approved training for occupational health professionals. The course provides training in the requirements for health surveillance for a workforce exposed to hand-transmitted vibration, and in the diagnosis and management of an individual with HAVS.

    Accreditation

    This course  is approved by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians.

    It has received Faculty CPD approval worth 12.5 CPD points for full attendance.

    Required knowledge

    A general understanding of occupational health is required. The course would be best suited to those practicing as occupational health nurses or physicians. 
    For those with no specific knowledge of HAVS, you should also ideally sit in with colleagues within your organisation who do HAVS surveillance prior to the course.

    Teaching

    The course will be divided to small groups using a combination of formal presentations and practical sessions. The course is provided over 2 days.

    Assessment

    A formal assessment, will occur. Clinicians (doctors and nurses) successfully completing the formal assessment at the end of the course will be entitled to apply for a Certificate of Competence accredited by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. The Faculty intends to list those who have received a Faculty Certificate on their website. (NB Non clinicians will not be eligible for a Faculty Certificate.)

    This course is designed for OH professionals who have previously attended a Faulty of Occupational Medicine approved course on HAVS and will provide refresher training in the requirements for health surveillance of a workforce exposed to hand transmitted vibration and in the diagnosis and management of individuals with HAVS.

    It will be a practically focussed, evidence based, interactive day to provide OH practitioners with the skills and competencies to translate the findings of their OH assessment into an excellent report to management.

    This programme is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of all relevant aspects of the report writing process to produce an effective and meaningful OH report.

    It is suited to all OH practitioners undertaking referrals from managers including physicians, nurses, advisors, case managers and allied health professionals working in the OH field.

    Vocational Rehabilitation Case Management

    The certificate in case management is designed to develop and enhance the ability of a wide range of staff in health, social services and workplaces to perform case management functions in a variety of practice settings, but primarily focused on "Return to Work" and effective functioning.

    This programme is a core module which will provide delegates with the opportunity to acquire /enhance skills fundamental to client centered case management; understand the models and theories of case management; locate case management within employment, health and social service policy frameworks enabling the practitioner to provide high quality efficient services.
