HEHTA welcomed a visiting delegation from the Zhongwei Institute of HTA, China, for a symposium on the application of AI in HTA.
On 6th July 2026, the HEHTA team welcomed a visiting delegation from the Zhongwei Institute of HTA, China, for a symposium on application of artificial intelligence (AI) in HTA. The session brought together researchers from both institutions to explore how AI is reshaping the way evidence is synthesised and translated into value-based decisions.
The Zhongwei team presented the key features of their HTA agent and automated report-generation workflow, alongside their public-interest HTA report repository and review process.
HEHTA colleagues, led by HEHTA Director, Professor Kathleen Boyd, and supported by Dr Lili Wei, responded with contributions on AI in evidence synthesis (Dikshyanta Rana), the use of AI in decision modelling (Martyna Chabalowska), and broader perspectives on AI in HTA from Professor David McAllister. The colleagues were also joined by Professor Honghan Wu, expert in health informatics and AI, and Professor Emma McIntosh, head of the School of Health and Wellbeing.
Discussion ranged across the opportunities and risks of using AI, and the governance, transparency, and trust needed for AI to be accepted by trialists, journals, and HTA agencies. The visit ended with exchange on future collaboration and a Scottish lunch at The Bothy.
