The School of Geographical and Earth Sciences welcomes Dr Xander Huggins, who joins our staff as Lecturer of Global Terrestrial Water.
Dr Huggins is a global freshwater scientist whose research topics span groundwater-dependent ecosystems, groundwater sustainability, and freshwater social ecology. These are all broadly united by an overarching interest in understanding freshwater interactions within the human-Earth system to realize a sustainable and equitable water future for all. His work often integrates social-ecological system frameworks, remote sensing, modeling, data science, sustainability theory, and critical perspectives to address interdisciplinary, needs-based research questions.
Dr Huggins will be advertising PhD opportunities soon and welcomes enquiries from prospective students. Dr Huggins is an affiliate Lecturer with the James Watt School of Engineering, and looks forward to working with students in geography, Earth science, engineering, and sustainability disciplines.
“I am tremendously pleased to be joining GES. The strength of both human geography and Earth science research within the School creates a fantastically rich environment, and one that is necessary to study and address grand sustainability challenges through creative and interdisciplinary collaboration.” – Dr Huggins
Dr Huggins joins GES after holding postdoctoral fellowships at the University of British Columbia and Princeton University's High Meadows Environmental Institute. Read more about Dr Huggins on his staff profile.
