The launch of the Green Prize 2026 is a welcome opportunity to spotlight the work of GaEL, the Glasgow Experimental Lab, and its role in supporting experimental research across the School.

The Prize has been made possible through a £10,000 donation from Jim Green, an Adam Smith Business School alumnus, given to support the MSc Behavioural Science cohort. His gift will help students turn promising ideas into live research projects, while also drawing attention to the practical and intellectual support GaEL provides from early-stage design through to delivery.

Through the Prize, MSc Behavioural Science students will be able to develop original studies focused on decision-making and sustainability behaviour. Winning projects will receive funding alongside mentoring to help take the research from concept to execution, whether in the field, online or in the lab. The studies are expected to run in June, giving students valuable experience of the full research process in action.

For colleagues across the School, the initiative is also a reminder of the distinctive contribution GaEL makes to our research environment. The Lab creates opportunities to test behavioural ideas rigorously, supports high-quality experimental design, and helps emerging researchers build confidence in running studies. In this case, the Green Prize does more than fund student work: it showcases how GaEL enables ambitious research to move from a strong idea to a completed experiment.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel, and all applicants will receive feedback in May. Plans are also being developed for a small event with Jim Green and the wider Behavioural Science cohort, where the winning students will have the chance to present their work.
