Our research study systems encompass a broad range of models for addressing fundamental and applied research questions. We are in the process of adding detail of additional systems that have broad research applications and which may be of interest to those looking to bring their research here and/or collaborate with us.

Sewage sludge model

Using the application of sewage sludge to pasture land as a model to study the effects of pollutant exposure on animal and ecosystem health

Study system for biting vectors

We are currently establishing a local system for the study of vector-borne disease in the woodlands surrounding our field station SCENE on Loch Lomond

Woodland bird study system

At our field station SCENE we have established an extensive system of almost 500 nest boxes for hole-nesting songbirds, which together with technques for remote monitoring, is ideal for studies of ecology, physiology and genetics of woodland species

Urban-rural gradient

Urban-rural gradient study system

We have recently established an urban-rural gradient of nest-boxes for hole-nesting passerines that connects the boxes in the SCENE woodlands to the University of Glasgow’s main campus allowing us to test how this gradient affects variation in biological rhythms, behaviour, physiology and genes
