Testing the size selectivity and bycatch of creels

Static gear such as creels (traps) are often considered a lower-impact form of fishing and it is possible that some of the new Marine Protected Areas will allow creel fishing but not trawling or dredging. To minimise the impact of creeling it is important to reduce bycatch of non-target species and smaller individuals of the target species (in this case Nephrops norvegicus). In this project we will design and analyse a study of three creel designs intended to reduce bycatch.
